Highly-ranked Hornet soccer teams prepare to open season

On Thursday, the Chelsea High School’s boys and girls soccer teams will be opening their seasons. 

The boys’ squad will play against Springville in the Pinson Tournament at 7 p.m, while the girls play at home against Hewitt-Trussville, also at 7 p.m.

It’s a much anticipated start to the season, with both teams highly ranked in their respective preseason coaches poll. In the Class 6A state rankings, the boys came in at No. 5, while the girls are ranked No. 2.

The top five schools in the the boys division are (1) St. Paul’s Episcopal, (2) Fort Payne, (3) Homewood, (4) Pelham, (5) Chelsea. On the girls’ side, the top five are (1) Homewood, (2) Chelsea, (3) Gardendale, (4) Decatur and (5) Northridge.
