Clubs at Chelsea High School

If you want to have a fun year here at Chelsea High School you need to get involved. You get involved by getting into clubs. The benefit of getting in clubs is that you will find friends and have a fun time. You can also learn new things in clubs that you could use after High School. So here are all the clubs here at CHHS that you could join.

 

1.) Sports – If you are athletic and like being part of a team, a sport might be the thing for you.

Fall Sports –

  • Cross Country – Chelsea High Cross Country is coached by coach east. For cross country there is a boy team and girl team. These teams start competing in September and end around November. If wanting to join go to Coach East to get more details.
  • Football – Chelsea High Football  is coached by Coach Elmore. For football there is a freshman team, JV team, and a varsity team. All players that are in 9-12 grade are eligible for any of the teams. But you have to meet all the eligibilities of the AHSAA. Football is a fun sport and every game is exhilarating. The JV team and the freshman team play on Monday and the varsity team plays on Friday. So if you are interested in playing, contact Michael Stallings for details.
  • Volleyball – Chelsea High Volleyball team is coached by Jessica Pickett. For Volleyball there is one team and they begin to play in August and end around October. But to be on this team you need to have a passing grade above 69 and a study hall. If wanting to join go to Mrs Pickett for more details.

 

Winter Sports –

  • Boys Basketball – The boys basketball team is coached by Nick Baumbaugh. For boys basketball there is a 9th grade team, JV team, and Varsity team. Any boy is allowed to join if they pass the AHSAA requirements. Also to join you have to go through most of the practices in the spring and summer. Tryouts are in the Spring and Fall and if joined you will be part of a great group. If you want to join talk with Coach Baumbaugh for details.
  • Girls Basketball –  The girls basketball team is coached by Lauren Swee. For girls basketball there is a freshmen team, JV team, and varsity team. Any girl is allowed to join if they pass the AHSAA requirements. To join you have to come to the spring and summer practices. Tryouts are held in the spring and fall. If wanting to join talk to Coach Swee.
  • Indoor Track – The Chelsea High indoor track team is coached by Zeb Ellison. Indoor track starts in January and ends around in May with state tournament. To join you need to make tryouts, have a passing grade above 69, and have a study hall. Students in Indoor track will participate in events such as 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m, 4x100m, 4x400m, shot put, and discus. The students will participate in around 4 events in a season. Don’t join if you have heart problems because these events are very accelerating and if you have heart problems track would not be that fun. If wanting to join talk to Coach Ellison and you will have a great season with the speedy hornets.
  • Wrestling – The wrestling team is coached by head coach Ben East and assistant coach Adam Oliver. For wrestling there is one team, there are no tryouts, and it is open to anybody. But to join you need a passing grade.Wrestling starts in November and ends around February. If wanting to join talk to either of the coaches for details.

 

Spring Sports –

  • Baseball – The Chelsea Baseball Team is coached by head coach Michael stallings, Varsity Assistant Coaches Andrew Schmidt and Ryan Adams, JV Head Coach Kaleb Davis, and JV/Varsity Assistant Coach Brian Buczek. For baseball there is a freshmen team, JV team, and a varsity team. Baseball starts in January with tryouts and ends around May with state tournaments. The students that want to join need to make practices in the spring, have a passing grade, and make tryouts. In the summer student will participate in summer ball with workouts. If wanting to join this great club talk with Coach Stallings and he will give you the info.
  • Boys Soccer – Chelsea High School’s boys soccer team is coached by Lee Miller. For boys soccer there is a freshmen team, JV team, and varsity team. To get in you have to make tryouts and have a passing grade above 59. If wanting to join go to Chelsea high school’s website and find soccer in the athletic column and click the link in the article.   • Boys Tennis – Chelsea High School’s boys tennis team is coached by Calvin Gaines. Any boy is eligible if they have a passing grade and make tryouts. Tryouts are in August and the season start in January. If wanting to join contact Coach Gaines for the info.  
  • Girls Soccer –  Chelsea High School’s girls soccer team is coached by Coach Hammett. For girls soccer there is a freshmen team, JV team, and varsity team. Rising 7th graders can also join for summer workouts / summer camp. To get in you have to make tryouts and you have to have a passing grade. If you have any questions go to Coach Hammett.  
  • Girls Tennis –  Chelsea High school’s girls tennis team is coached by Teresa Martin. Any girl is eligible if they have a passing grade and make tryouts. Tryouts are in August and the season start in January. If wanting to join contact Coach Martin to the info.   
  • Softball – The Chelsea High school softball team is coached by Heather Mitchell Lee. For softball there is a freshmen team, JV team, and varsity team. Softball starts with workout in June and July and tryouts are in January. To join you have to have a passing grade and if you have a grade under 69 you have to have study hall. If you want to join talk with Coach Mitchell and get all the info.
  • Track and Field – The Chelsea High track team is coached by Zeb Ellison. Track starts in January and ends around in May with state tournament. To join you need to make tryouts, have a passing grade above 69, and have a study hall. Student Trainers / Students on the Sideline  –

  • Broadcast – In broadcast you will help commentate the games here at Chelsea high school. You will be the voice the people remember when Chelsea scores that winning touchdown. You will also learn terms you could use if you would want to pursue the radio voice. This is a great opportunity for a free ticket and screaming for fun. If you have any questions ask Coach Schmidt.
  • Diamond Dolls – In Diamond dolls you learn sports medicine and know what to do in certain situations. You will take care of the baseball players injuries and give them whatever they need to continue playing the game. If you have questions ask Mrs. Calhoun.
  • Mat Maids – In mat maids you will help roll out the mats for the wrestling team. You will also learn sports medicine and if anybody gets hurt you will be there to check on them.  Wanting to be a nurse or a therapist, this is the perfect thing for you. If you have any questions ask Mrs. Calhoun.
  • Sports Medicine – In sports medicine you will learn how to be a therapist, paramedic, nurse, etc. You will learn how to take care of athletes that are hurt and in football games you will be there on the sideline caring for the athletes giving them water and keeping their health up. If you have questions ask Coach Gaines.

 

2.) The Arts –

Drama Club –

  • Theatre – If you like accessing your emotions and singing on a stage with lights beating down on you with everybody’s attention then this is the club for you. In theater you will act and make up skits for your classmates and sometimes you will have a play for the whole school. This is a really fun class with a really fun group of people in it.
  • Theatre Tech – In theatre tech you will learn about everything behind the scenes. You will learn about lights, cameras, sound, etc. You will be responsible for everything to work properly during a play or whatever you are doing. But when you aren’t doing plays you will be learning what type of lights to use and all of that kind of stuff.

 

Singing –

  • Men’s Choir – In men’s Choir you will practice your songs and then go to competition and compete against other schools. When you go to competition you will have a great time talking to your friends and stories will be made. You will also perform at the school for family and  friends to see.  
  • Show Choir – In show choir you will have songs that will make you want to dance all around. This club is like if choir and theatre had a baby. You will sing and then you will dance all over the stage. This is a fun club to be in and you will always have a fun time while doing it. You will perform at the school and go to competition. But you have to make it through tryouts first to see if you are good enough. I highly encourage people that love to sing to be in this club.  
  • Women’s Choir – In women’s choir you will practice your music and go to competition and compete against other schools. You will have a great time on the bus talking with your friends. You will also perform at the school for family and friends to see.

 

Music –

  • Concert Band –  Concert Band is lead by Mr. Lawley. In concert band you will play classical music that will get stuck in your head for hours. Anybody in high school can get in. But to get in you will have to prove that you can play an instrument. If you played in Middle School then you can join. To stay in band you need a passing grade. Since you are in Concert band you will have to be in Marching band. If you have any questions ask Mr. Lawley.
  • Guitar – Guitar is lead by Mr. Lawley. In guitar you will learn basic chords and basic songs. Guitar is a good opening for a hobby or just to show off to your friends. This is a fun class that you will have a great time in. If you have any questions ask Mr. Lawley.
  • Marching Band –  Marching band is lead by Mr. Lawley. In marching band you will play for halftime in football games and you will have a catchy theme for the show. When you are done with the show you play in the stand and make a ruckus. So if you like playing an instrument and partying at the same time you will love marching band. You might make a friend or two also. If you have any questions ask Mr. Lawley.
  • Wind Ensemble – Wind Ensemble is lead by Mr. Lawley. In wind ensemble you will play majestic music that makes you feel like you’re in a dramatic movie scene. Wind ensemble is like concert band but just a little harder. In order to make it into wind ensemble you have to go through tryouts. Also you have to be in marching band because you are in wind ensemble. If you have any questions ask Mr. Lawley/.

 

Art –

  • Art – Art is directed by Mr. Beasley and Mr Newton. In art you will learn how to interpret certain types of art and how to paint/ draw them. If you have a big mind for creativity this is the club for you.
  • Photography– . In Photography you will learn about how cameras work and how to take really good pictures with them. You will learn about lens flare, shadows, etc. This is a really easy grade class but it is really fun.  

 

Writing / Reading –

  • B.O.B– B.O.B (Battle. Of . the. Books) is run by Mrs Dixon. B.O.B is about reading comprehension. What you do in B.O.B is that you read multiple books and answer questions on them. You will go to competitions for these books and it is a fun experience. If you love to read this is your place. If you have any questions ask Mrs. Dixon
  • Debate– In debate you will argue over different topics. These topics are usually recent topics with lots of tension. But this club is great and it will teach you how to defend anything you believe in and it will teach you how to win arguments. So if you like arguing this is your clue. Debate is coached by Mrs. Newman.
  • Journalism– Coach Schmidt runs journalism. Journalism is a club for the people that like to get to the nitty gritty. In this class you will learn how to write up article and how to post them on a site for everybody to see. Also journalism runs the Chelsea Buzz website and they post articles of events that are happening on there. If you have any questions ask Coach Schmidt
  • Yearbook– Yearbook is ran by Miss Hamrick. In yearbook you will be responsible for making the yearbook obviously. In this club you will take pictures of the events going around school and write descriptions of them in the yearbook. This club is great and the skills you learn in this class will last you through high school and college.If you have any questions ask Miss Hamrick.

 

3.) Academic Clubs – These clubs are for the “smart” people, but anybody can join.

Math Teams – If you like numbers these are the clubs for you.

  • Algebra 1 Math Team – This team is coached by Mrs. Gordon and any student enrolled in Algebra 1 can join this team.
  • Algebra 2 Math Team – This team is coached by Mr. Richie and any student enrolled in Algebra 2 can join this team.  
  • Advanced Math Team – This team is coached by Coach Hammett and if you like algebra and geometry this is the club for you. In the club you will go to competitions and spend a day doing math for a grand trophy.
  • Geometry Math Team – This team is lead by Mrs Goodwin and anybody that was enrolled in geometry can join this team.
  • Mu Alpha Theta – Mu Alpha Theta is the national Mathematics honor society. This club is lead by Mr. Richie. To be in Mu Alpha Theta  you have to be enrolled in Algebra II, Advanced Algebra II, Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus, Honors Pre-Calculus, or AP Calculus. You also have had to completed five semesters of math courses beginning with Algebra I or Advanced Algebra I. Another thing you need to be in this club is that you need to have above B average in every 9 week. Finally you need to have a 3.0 GPA or higher. So if you want to be in this club you have to work hard but it will all pay off.  
  • Scholars Bowl–  Scholars bowl is coached by Coach Wicks. In scholars bowl you will learn random facts and then go to competition and try to win. This club is great because then you will be a portable google. Scholars Bowl is for the people that like to be challenged by hard questions and people that like random facts. If you have any questions ask Coach Wicks.

 

4.) Student Leaders – If you are a trailblazer these clubs are for you.

SGA – SGA (Student. Government. Association) is an opportunity for students to lead other students, to do projects to benefit the students, and to tell adult leaders what the students think about situations.

  • Beta Club – Beta club is a club for people that have 3.5 – 4.0 GPA. To get in you must not have any discipline notes. This club allows students to participate in the community and to learn leadership skills. This club is lead by H. Taylor and if you have any questions ask him.
  • Class Officers – Class officers are people from your grade to operate all the sponsors and everything behind the scenes. These positions include president, vice president, spirit chairmen, treasurer, and secretary. These positions operate pep rallies, certain events, and things that benefit you as a student.
  • FCA – FCA (Fellowship. of. Christian. Athletes) meet Thursdays in the school and they talk about Jesus and what he did. This club is optional to anybody and nobody is forcing you to go. But if you want to get a little sprinkle of Jesus in the beginning of your day this is a great thing to join.

Future Leaders – You’re going to be something in the future. Why not be a leader.

  • FBLA– FBLA (Future. Business. Leaders. of . America) is run by Ms. Clarke. In FBLA you will learn how to be a business leader. This club is great because companies make the world go ‘round and if you find one of these impactful companies you will leave your mark and be rich. For example if you are passionate about making a business this is the club for you. If you have any questions ask Ms. Clarke.
  • FCCLA–  FCCLA (Family. Career. and . Community. Leaders. of . America) is run by Cynthia Walker. In FCCLA you will learn about the community and how to make it better You will learn how to be more considerate and how to be nice. You will also know how to have a career, a family, and a loving community behind you. If you have any questions ask Mrs Walker
  • FTA– FTA (Future. Teachers. of . America) is run by Laura Parks.In FTA  you will learn different learning styles and how to teach other people things easier. You might want to join this if you love helping others and learning more. If yu have any questions ask Mrs Parks.

5.) Specialized Clubs –

Language Clubs – So you don’t want to “press one for english” on the phone I see…

  • French Club – French club is lead by Mrs Montgomery. In French club you will learn how to talk better french and learn more about the culture of where french derived from. You will learn how it was brought up and who played big roles in the making of this language.
  • Spanish Club – Spanish club is lead by Mrs Kortright. In spanish club you will learn how to speak Spanish more fluently. You will also learn more about the culture of places that speak spanish. If you have any questions as Mrs. Kortright.

 

Societies –

  • National Art Society – The national art society is for the students in art that prevail from the other ones. The people in this club are probably seeking to have some type of job relating to art. So being in this club is good for them because it shows how good they are at art if they are ever going to have a job to do with art.
  • National Honor Society – The National honor society is a club that has a lot of requirements. To get in this club you need to maintain a 3.9 GPA, don’t break any code of conduct rules, be a sophomore or higher in grade, and have attendance at Chelsea High, Then when you have all of this you will be put up for vote and people will vote you in. This club is lead by Bryan Buczek, Bonnie Montgomery and Ami Wicks. This club is hard to get in but when you are in it you feel really good.
  • Spanish Honor Society – The spanish honor society is for the best spanish students in Chelsea. This society shines light on the students that are really good at spanish. Having this on your resume is good because some colleges really like people that can speak different languages so if you are on this club you might get a scholarship. This club is lead by Mrs. Kortright.

 

Dancing –

  • Cheer – On cheer you will cheer on all the sports team while they work their hardest to please the audience. You will scream and shout with joy to keep the crowd screaming. If wanting to join you will have to d tryouts and if you make it go to workouts. This is a fun club and you get a free ticket in the football game.
  • Color Guard – On Color guard you will practice with the hornet pride marching band in summer and after school. You will make the halftime show look spectacular with your colorful flags and dancing. If wanting to join this club you will have to make tryouts and come to most of the practices.
  • Dance Team –  On dance team you will dance to the music of the marching band and have a fun time on the field. If wanting to join the team you will have to make tryouts and come to most of the practices. But I highly encourage you to join if you love dancing and making new friends.

 

Student Helpers –

  • Key Club – In key club you will help the community and get service hours in. If there is a local project key club will be there. Key club also helps with projects around the school. So if you like being helpful this is the club for you.  
  • Special Peers – In Special peers you will help special needs and be there friend. You will  help them around the school, help with their work, talk with them, etc. You will also help them when they go to the special olympics and you will cheer them on. So if you are up to make a new friend this is the club for you.
  • Peer Helpers – In peer helpers you will help people in your school with work or where a class is. But peer helpers just don’t do that they help the community and the schools. Peer helpers are helpful and are fairly nice. If you like helping people this is the club for you.
