The beginning of school means new teachers, new classes, and new opportunities.
At the end of August each year, the Chelsea High School student government has class officer elections to elect a new class president and vice president to each grade. This year’s elections had a lot of student involvement from both those who have been in SGA and those who are looking for something new.
Throughout this week The Buzz caught up with and asked some of the class of 2026 junior candidates to explain their why – why they want to be a part of SGA, what made them want to join, and more.
Jordyn Peters has been a part of SGA for 3 years and when asked what she looks forward to being a part of in SGA .
“I look forward to being a part of SGA to build community in our campus,” Peters said.
Jordyn wants to run for class president to try and build union within our class.
“I want to push everyone to the best of their ability,” she said.
Jordyn said her favorite event that our Student government has put on is the Hall of Fame ( a ceremony put on by the current student government students of Chelsea High School to honor the people who have helped shape the Chelsea community and student body.). She hopes to influence more student participation in the class of 26 and let people know they have a voice through her presidency.
Another candidate running for class president us Maralyn Weygand. This is her first time running for a student government position and she said she looks forward to helping others and spreading the gospel through her involvement in SGA.
Maralyn said she was interested in running for class president because she wanted to help with school events and community service. Her favorite event that she’s seen our student government put on is the class Olympics. When asked what she would do with her presidency she said, “I hope to use the platform as a way to lead people to Jesus.”
