On Friday, August 23, Chelsea kicked off the season to a great start by winning against Mobile Christian at home field. The score at the end of the game was 24-3 in favor of the Hornets.
One of Chelsea’s star running backs, Chase Stracener, led the team to a win with 18 carries for 129 yards, along with Morgan Barnes who had 18 carries with 71 yards. Stracener also had a touchdown, as did wide receivers CJ Durbin and Aiden Hughes. Durbin got his on a wildcat carry, while Hughes caught a 49-yard touchdown pass from Miller Baumann.
Porter Schott, one of defense’s power players at outside linebacker, fought through sickness and still managed to end the game with 6 tackles and 8 assisted tackles. Schott says one of the team’s main issues was staying hydrated and he says they will come out next Friday better fueled and even more prepared than this past week.
Though Chelsea won their first game, there is always room for improvement. When asked about how the team can improve, Chelsea’s offensive tackle, Lawson Williamson, said, “by paying more attention to detail and being more mentally prepared.”
Chelsea High School football came out and secured the win this week. Will they continue to work hard and triumph over challenges? Can they stay focused and continue their reign of victory? As heard from these boys, they will!
