Ms. Cobb is in her fourth year as an
English teacher at Chelsea High School. The Buzz was able to ask her some questions. Read below to find out what she had to say.
Chelsea Buzz: Where did you go for college?
Sarah Cobb: Jacksonville State University.
CB: How many years have you been teaching?
SC: This is my 4th year teaching.
CB: Whats your favorite quote?
SC: This question is difficult to answer. Not a popular quote, but it is one I have framed in my classroom and it is “See the good.” I challenge myself to find
at least one good thing in every situation no matter how difficult it may be. I also like to remind myself of this to make sure I am looking for and finding the good in the people I encounter in life.
CB: Whats your favorite Holiday?
SC: Thanksgiving and Christmas are tied, but I tend to like Thanksgiving a little more. I enjoy all the words of affirmation from friends and family. I enjoy the spirit of thankfulness that everyone has. I also LOVE the food.
CB: What’s one of your hidden talents?
SC: I learned all of my students names by day three this year. Also, I’m not a terrible singer, but also not the greatest.
CB: What is your favorite fast food place?
SC: Probably Taco Bell… Chicken Chalupas and Crunch Wrap Supremes are my favorite.
CB: Why did you choose to teach?
SC: I think I’ve always been a natural leader, so that impacted my decision. But, I’ve always been someone who “leads by example,” so I feel like I am able to be a valuable role model for students. I’ve always wanted to make a difference, and I feel that I am doing that in my chosen profession.
CB: What is one thing on your bucket list? Why?
SC: Not going to lie, I don’t really have bucket list items… I’m pretty content with my life and have never sat around and had big dreams of doing all these adventurous things. But, if I had to say one thing, I’d say traveling to a different country with my family.
CB: What would your students be surprised to find out about you?
SC: Hmm…Maybe that I actually used to be really shy??? I didn’t really become super social until college. Or maybe that I actually was given an F on my very first college paper because I had too many comma splices (lesson learned).
CB: What is a life lesson that you have learned from teaching?
SC: I’ve learned that there is something special and unique about people coming together from different walks of life and different backgrounds. I’ve learned that it’s important to listen to other people’s perspectives, even if you don’t share the same views, because you can always learn from it.
CB: What makes a “good day” at school?
SC: Connecting with my students in ways that exemplifies that they are valued and that I support them! My favorite days are the ones where I am learning more about who they are and watching them grow in their learning and character.
CB: What is something that motivates you?
SC: Remembering my ultimate goal–to be a positive influence and to create the life that I want.
