Pickers Take on Week 13 in NFL

Andrew Messier and Grant Lang

Teams around the NFL, after a happy thanksgiving week full of friends, family, and football, are now in preparation for a big week 13 in deciding the playoff race.  Many teams picked up their fifth or sixth wins hoping for wild card bids while teams like the Cowboys and the Patriots kept rolling in a major fashion.  Week 13 is the bye week for both the explosive Tennessee Titans and the Cleveland Browns who are preparing on trying to find their first win after twelve games.

Featured Games This Week:

Panthers @ Seahawks– Sunday Night Dec.4, 7:30 P.M.- The Carolina Panthers have started off this season cold with last place in the NFC South. Cam Newton and the Panthers need to step up and win the rest of their games for even a chance at playoffs. This game is a must win for them. The Seattle Seahawks are looking comfortable going 7-3 so far this season. The Panthers have more Yards Per Game (YPG) with 353, but Seattle is only ten behind with 343. This will be a game decided by which defense can get the most stops. Carolina will have trouble containing the Russell Wilson-Doug Baldwin connection in the pass game. Cam Newton has a very similar connection with TE Greg Olsen, who is Cam’s go to target. The only way to lock-down the Carolina offense is by keeping Olsen at bay.

Grant’s Pick- (Seahawks) Russell Wilson pulls out a big win to keep the Seahawks playoff chances up.

Andrew’s Pick- (Panthers) Ted Ginn Jr. will make some plays deep and beat the Seahawks secondary singlehandedly.

Rams @ Patriots– Sunday Afternoon Dec. 4, 12:00 P.M.- This may be an easy one to call. New England is still #1 in the AFC and they do not look like they will slow down anytime soon. The Rams have been struggling defensively allowing 49 points to the New Orleans Saints. A defense like theirs will struggle greatly against All-Pro TE Rob “Gronk” Gronkowski and All-Pro QB Tom Brady. The Patriots will score too many times for the Rams to keep up. The New England defense will just need to hold off the Rams run game led by Todd Gurley to limit points for the other side.

Grant’s Pick- (Rams) Jared Goff and Benny Cunningham are the new combo to look for in the NFL as they lead the Rams to victory.

Andrew’s Pick- (Patriots) Legarrette Blount will have a big game scoring multiple touchdowns in an easy Patriots win.

Cowboys @ Vikings– Thursday Night Dec.1, 7:25 P.M.- The Cowboys are now the team to beat in the NFL with ten wins and one loss.  Ezekiel Elliott and Dak Prescott lead the offense behind one of the best offensive lines led by Travis Frederick and Tyron Smith.  On the other side stands the struggling Vikings who have lost five of their last six.  They are depleted in the quarterback and wide receivers position.  Although, their defense led by Everson Griffen and Harrison Smith has kept them in close games this season.

Grant’s Pick- (Vikings) The Vikings defense will step up to beat the best team in the NFL as of week 13.

Andrew’s Pick- (Cowboys) The Cowboys will continue their dominance with a solid performance from Ezekiel Elliott in a blowout win.

Lions @ Saints– Sunday Afternoon Dec. 4, 12:00 P.M.- The Lions are hot right now behind the playmakers of Theo Riddick and Matthew Stafford.  They have won five of their last six and have completely dominated on both sides of the ball.  The Saints are also hot right now playing very good football especially on the offensive end averaging 30.4 points per game.  Their playmakers, Mark Ingram and Drew Brees, have been making plays lately and they will closely be watched by the Lions defense.

Grant’s Pick- (Saints) Mark Ingram has an 100 yard rushing game, and hands the Saints another consecutive win.

Andrew’s Pick- (Saints) Receiver Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead will step up in a big game for their season.

Redskins @ Cardinals– Sunday Afternoon Dec. 4, 3:25 P.M.- This game will definitely be a game to watch as both teams are coming off of bad losses for their seasons.  Both teams will need to win to stay in the playoff conversation.  The Redskins will need to get the ball in the hands of Jordan Reed who has made big plays for them this season.  For the Cardinals, they will need to continue to get the ball in the hands of David Johnson, their star running back.

Grant’s Pick- (Redskins) Kirk Cousins will continue his hot streak with a big game.

Andrew’s Pick- (Cardinals) Carson Palmer finds his rhythm in an important game for their season.

Colts @ Jets– Monday Night Dec. 5, 7:30 P.M.- This game is a battle of who can score the most as both teams defenses have allowed big games against teams this season  The Colts hope to have Andrew Luck return from a concussion and also hope to have T.Y. Hilton.  While the Jets still have QB concerns and have yet to have a playmaker step up in their offense.  Watch for a low scoring game, led by running backs Frank Gore and Matt Forte.

Grant’s Pick- (Colts) Austin Seferian-Jenkins has the biggest game of his career and gives Todd Bowles a win to help his case for being the head coach next year.

Andrew’s Pick- (Colts) Frank Gore will step up and control the ground game in a big game for the Colts.
