Chelsea volleyball gets off to strong start

The Chelsea High School varsity volleyball team got off to a strong start to the season last week, winning four matches and losing two between Thursday and Saturday.

The Hornets started their season with a win over visiting Jeff Davis in the in-school match Thursday. Madison Turner, a junior, finished the match with nine kills, nine assists, and five digs, while senior Destinee Benton had eight kills. Fellow senior Caiti Davis contributed six aces, three digs, and two blocks.

Chelsea then competed in the Briarwood Serve-Off tournament on Friday and Saturday, going 3-2 over the weekend. The Hornets split a pair of matches Friday, defeating Tuscaloosa County and falling to Muscle Shoals. On Saturday, coach Jessica Pickett’s squad knocked off Daphne and Northridge and suffered a defeat at the hands of Walker.
