Chelsea tops Briarwood on volleyball senior night

On September 28th the Chelsea volleyball team played Briarwood for not only an area game, but for the Hornets’ senior night. With the six seniors playing key roles on the team it was their night to shine.

Knowing that it was an area game the Hornets had some extra pressure to perform but they did exactly that.

With a great student section supporting them the Hornets fed off their energy and swept the Lions in three straight sets. This was the second time that Chelsea had swept Briarwood during area play.

It was a very special night for all of the seniors – Addison Evans, Landi Rutledge, Mackenzie Pierce, Morgan Martin, Ashley Washington, and Anna Sartin.

The theme for the night was neon. The players, students, and even the coaches wore their most neon clothes to show their support. The junior varsity girls even painted up for the seniors with their nicknames and numbers painted on them.

After the game, the celebrations began. It started with the students along with both teams doing the “ I believe that we just won” cheer and some of the students brought confetti cannons that they popped. This was followed by each of the girls walking out with their family, and there was a small ceremony held where coach Jamie Gill introduced each of the seniors. She announced what the girls’ career stats were along with their college and future plans.

This night ended with lots of pictures and gift-giving. All the tears set aside, this will be a night the seniors will remember for the rest of their lives.
