Chelsea puts up their best defense to stop Briarwood from getting a first down.

The Chelsea High School football team earned a 17-14 win Friday over rival Briarwood in its second game of the season.

The Hornets (1-1) came back from a loss to Oak Mountain in week one to take the victory over the team ranked No. 1 in the Class 5A poll.

Junior running back Collier Blair had a rushing touchdown in the win, while senior linebacker Jordan Smith covered a fumble in the end zone for the other score for the Hornets. The final margin of victory was provided by senior Cooper Neal, who hit a 49-yard field goal in the game.

The Chelsea defense stood firm throughout the second half to hold onto the lead and the win.

The Hornets will return to play this week when they host Carver-Birmingham. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.
