To kick off its area tournament, the varsity girls basketball team played Helena at Chelsea High on Tuesday, February 5. While in the beginning the game was close, the girls took the lead before the end of the first half and won the game. The final score was 54-33, Chelsea.

Mackenzie Titus led the way with 17 points in the opening-round victory. Sydney Schwallie and Pressely Rains had 10 points each.

Since they won their first tournament game, the Lady Hornets progressed to the Area Championship, in which they played Pelham at Chelsea High on Thursday, February 7. The girls had the lead from the start and won 54-34, making them Area Champions.

Rains scored 23 points in the area title game to lead the way.

The win against Pelham advanced them to sub-regionals, where they played Benjamin Russell, Monday Feb. 11th in the Chelsea High School gym. The girls started out with a bang and held the lead for the entire game. The final score was 58-45, Chelsea.

Rains scored 19 points in the win over Ben Russell, while Titus added 16 points and Ellen Fleming had 12 points.

This victory progressed them to the Sub-Regional championship that will be played in Montgomery on Friday, February 15. The Hornets will play Carver-Montgomery in one regional semifinal, while Eufala and Opelika will meet in the other.
