October has been designated as “Dyslexia Awareness Month” by the Alabama State Department of Education. Below is a list of some of the great things we have going on in Shelby County Schools to support students with characteristics of dyslexia.   • District-wide Dyslexia Specific Screening Plan
  • Professional development opportunities for teachers throughout our district on multi-sensory strategies, interventions and assistive technology to specifically support students with characteristics of dyslexia
  • Professional Learning Unit completed by building principals and central office leaders about dyslexia
  • Training about changes to Response to Instruction (RTI) and dyslexia specific interventions for our Problem Solving Team (PST) chairs
  • Overview of the Alabama Dyslexia Resource Guide for all principals and central office leaders to be shared with teachers
