The Chelsea High School football team will open its season on Thursday night when it takes on Helena in the AHSAA Kickoff Classic.

The Hornets will travel to Montogmery and meet the Huskies in the Cramton Bowl. The game will kick off at 7 p.m.

Chelsea head coach Todd Cassity will be making his official debut for the Hornets. Cassity came to Chelsea in April to replace Dustin Goodwin. Cassity previously served as the head coach at J.B. Pennington High School.

The Hornets got a chance at live action last week when they traveled to Talladega for a jamboree contest. Chelsea earned a 56-0 win in that unofficial matchup.

Thursday’s game will mark the ninth meeting between Chelsea and Helena. Chelsea owns a 5-3 advantage in the series. Last year, Helena earned a 27-14 win at home.

The gameday theme this week is “Hunt the Huskies,” and students are encouraged to wear camo to school on Thursday to show their school spirit.
